Playing together for 27 years, César Lerner and Marcelo Moguilevsky have developed their own musical language that is virtuosic, creative and passionate.
Both decedents of East-European immigrants to Argentina, Lerner and Moguilevsky uses klezmer as a springboard for free improvisation that is played with intensity and originality. Swinging back and forth between the genres, vocalist Marcelo Moguilevsky (clarinet, bass, soprano sax, wooden flutes, harmonica, bagpipe and duduk) and César Lerner (piano, accordion and percussion), combine Argentinean folk music, jazz, contemporary music and tango.
Moguilevsky’s cantorial and Ashkenazi scat vocals create a link to nign, hazanus and Yiddish folk song in a haunting and powerful way. Their songs express the essence of Jewish existence while describing the journey of the first Jewish settlers in Argentina to the life at the temple of “Templo de Libertad” in Buenos Aires.
By collaborating with musicians who play different styles, the Lerner Moguilevsky Duo create a distinct version of klezmer music.
