Hailing from New York, the 6 piece Eastern European folk-punk band Golem, consists of Annette Ezekiel Kogan (vocals and accordion), Aaron Diskin (vocals, tambourine), Alicia Jo Rabins (violin), Curtis Hasselbring (trombone), Taylor Bergen-Chrisman (upright bass) and Tim Monaghan (drums).
Annette Kogan, the composer and leader of Golem, is classically trained pianist, who picked up the accordion to learn Ukrainian and Russian tunes. After falling in love with Yiddish songs, Kogan began collecting ‘Gypsy’, Jewish and Slavic folk songs. By rewriting and rearranging parts of these tunes, Kogan and Golem create songs that are snapshots of the Old World filtered through the lens of a younger generation.
