Y-Love
“Judaism is the way by which the infinite compresses itself into the finite.”
Hip-hop revolutionary, Yitz ‘Y-Love’ Jordan balances Jewish spirituality with social and political commentary. Rhyming in English, Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic, Latin and Yiddish, Y-Love’s style has been described as a form of ‘global hip hop’ that aims to promote unity and tear down social boundaries.
Raised by Christian parents in Baltimore, Y-Love became interested in Judaism at the age of 7 and decided to convert when he was 18. While studying at yeshiva in Jerusalem, he used the rhythmic style of rapping to help him remember Talmudic passages.
Since moving to Brooklyn in 2001 to focus on his music, Y-Love has shared the stage with noted musicians such as Lou Reed, DJ Spooky and Matisyahu.
As a black Orthodox Jewish MC, Y-Love expresses his social consciousness and spirituality through his music.
